“And this is what all the users are currently looking at?” D’Nivia said slack jawed.
“Yep and I’m having a hard time keeping them in static mode. It's been three days and they only have-” Chaka trailed off.
“Hours left,” D’Nivia finished.
Chaka shook his head sadly. D’Nivia knew this was serious. Chaka always had an idea to pursue or a thought that would lead him to the answer. Now all he could do was shake his head with a forlorn look.
“I’m going to have to bring out the Oracles then” D’Nivia sighed.
“Then I will bid you farewell.” Chaka said, starting to shuffle out the door.
“Are you still holding a grudge?” D’Nivia asked.
“Holding a grudge? Are you kidding me? My last three interactions with them have been a threat against my life and I’m a magical entity D’Nivia! I can’t be killed!”
“I know how you are feeling and I sympathize but we have a job to do and I need you to not be withdrawn when they get here. We need everyone working at their best.”
Chaka stood up straight and nodded at D’Nivia. “Then before the Oracles arrive, I would like to say ‘Fuck them bitches’”
D’Nivia chuckled slightly and pulled out his device. He typed furiously for about twenty seconds and then quietly slipped the device back into his pocket quietly. Seconds later the Oracles materialized in front of D’Nivia. D’Nivia stumbled backward.
“Dammit guys! I told you, not directly in front of me” He finished adjusting himself and dusted his chest and legs off.
“Apologies, We will adjust the coordinates permanently from now on” The Oracles said in sync and then all you could hear was the Oracles devices click clacking in unison. ASMR for those who want to be annoyed.
“Define the task” the Oracles commanded
“A server has been frozen for almost 4 days. We have run through all regular troubleshooting and standardized brute force functions have had no affect. Also, Chaka has no solutions for such an eventuality” D’Nivia reported.
The Oracles looked amongst themselves bemused and smirking. D’Nivia had a small smile on her face, but then quickly took out his device and pretended to be busy. Chaka, refusing to be sucked into any interaction with the Oracles, kept himself busy with his device. Then unceremoniously stood up and stated “I'm gonna go take a shit” and headed for the restroom.
“So, what do you need us to do?” the Oracles asked.
“Honestly we have tried everything. I think since this is Chaka’s first time, he is having a hard time with what comes next”
“That makes sense, he has only been here 600 years. He has adapted well but this is the first time he is experiencing server death. Sometimes it takes a long time to let go of human feelings.”
“Human feelings never really go away. They just stop being so intense. Seems young Chaka is holding on longer than normal….this will be good for him I think. We should have him do this.” D’Nivia said.
“Since he has struggled this far, we don’t believe this to be a good idea.” the Oracles stated.
“You are probably right. Since we are talking about this at length I take it there is nothing you guys can do for this server?”
“You are correct”
“I’ll take the kid out and let him down gently. Hopefully the next defunct server won't break down for a couple thousand years. Give him some time.”
They nodded to one another.
Chaka opened the bathroom door, throwing away his used paper towel. He looked up and spotted D’Nivia.
“What did they say?”
“They are gonna try a few things and let us know when we get back. Get in.” D’Nivia gestured to the pod.
“Where are we going?”
“They are gonna be a while, let's take a break. Relax. It’s been a long day”
Chaka gave a small smile.
“I know what you are doing, but I don’t need to be treated like a child.”
“Sometimes we all need someone there to hold our hands Chaka, nothing wrong with that at all.”
“Thanks D” Chaka said as he strapped himself into the pod.
“Anytime dude”
The doors closed on the pod and sped off into the distance.
